The city council approved the decision to create a landscape reserve Protasov Yar, which will not allow building up a green zone, informed mayor of the capital Vitaliy Klichko. Activist Roman Ratushny fought for Protasov Yar, who died in a battle with Russian invaders near Izyum on June 9.

“Protasov Yar was saved from development. It is a landscape reserve! And it will delight more than one generation of Kyivans,” Klitschko said.

A landscape reserve is a nature reserve area created to ensure the protection of the entire natural complex located on it.

The corresponding decision was supported by 85 deputies of the city council.

According to Klitschko, the creation of the reserve is a tribute to the memory of Roman Ratushny and evidence that his work and the work of many Kyivans who fought for this green zone were not in vain.

In the industrial zone of Protasov Yar planned build business-class housing for $120 million. Since 2018, Roman Ratushny has been fighting for the preservation of the green zone and led the Defend Protasov Yar initiative, which eventually became a public organization.
