The Verkhovna Rada adopted an appeal to the parliaments and governments of foreign countries, international organizations and their assemblies regarding the intentions of the Russian Federation to hold illegal elections in the occupied territories of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.

People’s deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced this on Wednesday, August 9.

Resolution No. 9581 was supported by 287 people’s representatives at the plenary session on Wednesday.

The Council, in particular, called on the world not to recognize the legitimacy of any “elections” in temporarily occupied parts of the territory of Ukraine, as well as to facilitate the criminal prosecution of persons who took part in the organization of illegal voting.

In addition, the document contains a call to recognize that Russia’s illegal actions once again confirm the impossibility of holding peace talks until the complete withdrawal of the occupying forces from the internationally recognized territory of Ukraine.

Council deputies ask residents of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to avoid participating in illegal elections, and international structures not to send observers.

As you know, the Russian occupiers want to hold so-called elections to local “authorities” in the temporarily occupied parts of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions on September 10.

We will remind, the Chairman of the Council Ruslan Stefanchuk told when the elections will be held in Ukraine and what legislative changes are needed for them.
