“The foundation was just poured there”: Ignat clarified the situation with the F-16 training center in Romania

Ukrainian pilots have not yet started training on F-16 fighters at the training center in Romania.

This was stated by Yuriy Ignat, a representative of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on talk-shock “On time”.

According to him, the center is still under construction, and the transfer of five fighter jets from the Netherlands is practically meaningless now.

“Sometimes the statements of foreign partners should be considered from a different angle. The Netherlands handed over 5 planes. They transferred the first batch to the future center, which is under construction, the foundation was only poured there, as far as I know. There is an airstrip there, but so far there is no talk of training Ukrainian pilots.” – said Ignat.

The representative of the Air Force also explained why the Netherlands decided to put its F-16s in the center.

“It’s clear why they do it. Because they’re transitioning to the F-35, they need the instructors, the ground crew to get involved more quickly in that process, in the F-35. They don’t need to keep the F-16s. You have to pay money for them, for their maintenance. Especially in winter, maintenance, etc. Therefore, they transferred them to Romania as soon as possible.” – summed up Ignat.

We will remind that the F-16 fighter training center was opened today at the Feteshti Air Base. Training at the center, located 150 kilometers east of Bucharest, will last at least six months.

Earlier, the Armed Forces reported that some of our pilots began training on the F-16 already in the air.
