About this reports edition of Yle.

Prime Minister Sanna Marin convened parliamentary parties today, October 18, to discuss the border fence. The government wanted to ensure broad political support for the fence, which costs hundreds of millions of euros.

Sanna Marin received permission from the parliamentary parties to build a border fence between Finland and Russia. The pilot project can start until the government decides on its financing.

“The construction of the fence begins with a pilot project, that is, an experiment. First, the border fence will be installed near the busiest border points in southeastern Finland. Later, it is possible that the fence will be built near the northern border stations as well. There was no disagreement in the parliament about the construction of the fence , but the opposition parties want to act faster than the government”, – they write in the publication Yle.

The fence will cost hundreds of millions of euros, and its construction will take 3-4 years.

  • We will remind, earlier the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Finland estimated that the construction of a fence on part of the border with Russia will cost six million euros, and construction work can begin by the end of 2022
