Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen confirmed that by the end of this week Ukraine will receive a tranche of 5 billion euros of macro-financial assistance from the EU.

“The situation in Ukraine continues to require our unrelenting support. On top of the €10 billion we have already provided, this week we will offer an additional €5 billion in macro-financial assistance. The EU will stand by Ukraine for as long as it takes,” wrote von der Leyen on Twitter.

Back in May, the European Union announced the allocation of 9 billion euros of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine. At the moment, Ukraine has received only 1 billion euros from this package.

The delay with the help happened due to disagreements within the European Union. Germany, the largest donor of the package, insisted on providing Ukraine with non-repayable grants. The executive branch of the EU insisted on granting preferential loans.
