The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has suspended the membership of the Russian Olympic Committee (OCR).

The decision was made in response to the decision of the OKR to include in its composition the Olympic committees of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

To the IOC statedthat this is a violation of the Olympic Charter, as it also violates the territorial integrity of the NOC of Ukraine, recognized by the International Olympic Committee.

“The Executive Committee of the IOC has decided to disqualify the OKR until further notice. The decision of the OKR to include regional committees of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions in its composition violates the territorial integrity of the NOC of Ukraine.

The suspension means that the OCR can no longer function as a National Olympic Committee and receive funding from the Olympic movement,” said IOC official Mark Adams.

It is also reported that the IOC reserves the right to make decisions regarding the participation of individual neutral athletes with Russian passports in the 2024 and 2026 Olympics.
