Putin canceled a press conference for the first time since 2012.
If Russian President Vladimir Putin canceled his New Year’s Eve press conference, it means he and his Kremlin entourage believe the stakes are very high.
As the Russian journalist and blogger Michael Nucky told in the new issue of the Argument program, the Kremlin knows that among the uncomfortable issues there may be issues related to war.
“You can, of course, filter everything so that there will not be any burning issue, but people will be unhappy because it is the main topic. They are very concerned about what is happening, so in any case it will go to your disadvantage.” – answered Nucky.
The journalist pointed out two points.
“This means: First, the Kremlin is paying attention to the mood inside Russia (this does not mean that people can vote for someone else and Putin will leave). And second, everything has worsened. Now the situation is such that Putin’s public speech and communication with the “people” is playing against the minus. And this is an important transformation of changes. This is 100% confirmation that the mood inside Russia is definitely at the stage where Putin believes that the perception of the war is very negative,” Naki explained
According to him, the last “nail in the coffin lid” were the strikes on Russian airfields inside Russia, to which Moscow never found an answer.

This was reported in the Kremlin on December 12. There are no plans to hold a big New Year’s reception in the Kremlin this year either.
Since 2012, the final press conference of the President of the Russian Federation has been held in December. According to the media, the current staging event could be canceled due to the situation at the front, which was unsatisfactory for the Russians.
