The meeting lasted less than five minutes and was formal. It was attended by relatives of those killed in the plane crash, their lawyers, as well as the defense of one of the four defendants – lieutenant colonel of the GRU of the Russian Federation Oleg Pulatov.

According to presiding judge Hendrik Steinhuys, the verdict in the downing case against all four defendants will be announced at 1:30 p.m. local time on November 17.

On May 23, 2018, the relatives of those killed in the MH17 disaster published an open letter to the Russians, in which they accused the downing of the airliner of Russian leaders. On May 24, the Joint Investigative Group presented a report from which it follows that the Boeing airliner flight MH17 of the “Malaysia Airlines” company was shot down on July 17, 2014 over the Russian-occupied territory of Ukraine from the Buk installation of the 53rd anti-aircraft missile brigade of the Russian Armed Forces. An international investigative team has revealed the wreckage of the missile that shot down MH17.
  • The NATO Secretary General called the conclusions of the investigators in the MH17 case professional. Australia and the Netherlands officially blamed Russia for the MH17 crash. The EU fully supports the investigation into the MH17 crash.
  • In November 2018, the relatives of those killed in the MH17 plane crash filed a lawsuit against Russia at the ECtHR.
  • In 2019, the case about the disaster was partially transferred to the Hague Court.
  • On June 7, 2021, the Court of The Hague began hearings on the merits of the case.
  • On December 8, 2021, relatives of those killed in the plane crash prepared 301 claims for compensation.
  • The ECtHR postponed the consideration of the case of Ukraine and the Netherlands against Russia.
  • On December 20, 2021, prosecutors stated that the “Buk” was brought from the Russian Federation on the eve of the downing of the plane, and called the defendants guilty of murder.
  • On December 21, 2021, prosecutors announced that the investigation identified the Russian “Buk” by 15 features.
  • The Dutch prosecutor’s office has demanded life imprisonment for all those accused of shooting down flight MH17.
  • On January 26, the ECtHR announced a hearing on three claims related to the Russian-Ukrainian war, in particular, the MH17 passenger plane shot down in ORDO in 2014.
  • On February 2, 2022, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte agreed on further cooperation in the investigation of the MH17 disaster.
  • On June 10, 2022, the trial of the MH17 plane shot down over Donetsk ended in the Netherlands. The verdict is expected by the end of the year.
  • On July 16, 2022, the EU called for the prosecution of those responsible for the downing of the plane.
  • On July 17, on the eighth anniversary of the tragedy, the BABYLON’13 company released a trailer for the film “Iron Butterflies” about the downing of the MH17 passenger plane by Russia.
  • On August 22, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov proposed to display in The Hague the Russian anti-aircraft missile system “Buk” captured by the Ukrainian army as a reminder of the downing of the MH17 passenger plane by the occupiers over ORDO in the summer of 2014.
