The main stage of liquidation of the consequences of the disaster at the Kakhovskaya HPP has been completed, cholera outbreaks have been avoided. Further, the situation will be monitored by emergency services in their respective directions.

This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor Ihor Kuzin, the press service of the Ministry of Health reports.

He noted that after the destruction of the hydroelectric dam on June 6, 180 settlements of the Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, and Mykolaiv regions, with a population of about 900,000, entered the emergency zone.

About 700,000 Ukrainians found themselves without access to drinking water. 148,000 tons of drinking and technical water were delivered to the emergency zone for the needs of the population and to prevent outbreaks of infectious diseases.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued 237,000 pills to disinfect drinking water for the population and water supply enterprises and critical infrastructure facilities.

“In order to prevent the deterioration of the sanitary situation, three infectious disease centers were deployed in the affected areas to treat patients with suspected acute intestinal infections and cholera”– stressed Kuzin.

According to him, more than three thousand people with acute intestinal infection were examined and cholera was not detected in any case.

Since July, in the territories of the affected communities, where the water has completely receded and the land has dried up, experts have examined more than 100 soil samples in the territories of Mykolaiv and Kherson regions that were flooded.

“Regarding water, sea and river water, from surface water bodies β€” monitoring will continue. In the case of fixing deviations or non-compliance with sanitary and hygienic standards, the Central Committee of the Central Bank of Ukraine will inform local self-government bodies and communities about possible risks”– added the chief medical officer.

Now the level of water pollution has decreased to a deviation of 10% in some monitoring points.

It will be recalled that on the night of June 6, Russian troops blew up the Kakhovskaya HPP dam. This caused large-scale flooding of territories in the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions. Cholera and Escherichia coli were detected in the water. The state of water in the affected regions was previously reported.
