The US Department of Defense is calling on Congress to vote on a bill on additional support for Ukraine “because it is an urgent urgent request and not part of the current budget process.”
This was announced by Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh at the briefing for the press on November 16.
“We urge Congress to pass our request for additional funding that will allow us to continue to support Ukraine and Israel, provide life-saving humanitarian assistance around the world, and make important investments in the Indo-Pacific region.” – she emphasized.
The official also noted that this additional funding would also be an investment in the US military industry.
In addition, according to Singh, the Pentagon currently has only 4.9 billion dollars to use in the form of PDA packages (allocations by presidential authority – ed.) – to support Ukraine, much more will be needed, which is why the US administration invited Congress.
“We know that Ukraine continues to struggle and needs constant support on a regular basis. So we realize that we need to continue to meet their needs.” – said the representative of the US Department of Defense.
This issue, she explained, will definitely be discussed at the next meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine.
It will be recalled that on November 16, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that he is confident that the USA, despite the disputes in Congress, will not refuse aid to Ukraine.
In addition, US President Joe Biden is trying to convince the US Congress to support aid to Ukraine and Israel, and approve a new $106 billion aid package.
At the same time, the new speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, insists that the aid packages for Ukraine and Israel be considered separately by Congress.
On November 14, the US approved a project on two-stage temporary financing of the government without allocating funds to help Ukraine and Israel to avoid a shutdown.
