The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, instructed state institutions to revise the system of public holidays and commemorative dates.
This is stated in his address.
The President emphasizes that there are many problematic moments in this matter in Ukraine, in particular, the coincidence of holidays, the absence of holidays for important professional communities, etc.
Β«For many years, two professional communities have been celebrating their day simultaneously on the second Saturday of September in our country. This is the Day of Physical Culture and Sports and the Day of Ukrainian Cinema. And there are too many such coincidences in our calendar“, he said.
Zelensky noted that next year, in May, there will be the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Genocide of the Crimean Tatar People and the Day of Science, which fall on the same day. According to him, this is an example of unacceptable mixing of meanings. While some professional communities, for example, historians, do not have their professional day, although their work deserves respect and attention.
Β«Actually, I instructed the government of Ukraine, relevant state institutions to review this entire system of state attention and update it fairly and logically“, the president added.
We remind you that the Orthodox Church of Ukraine switched to the New Julian calendar. Due to this, the dates of some holidays and fasts will change.
