The Russians tried to pressure IAEA Director General Grossi during the preparation of the report on ZAES

This was stated by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Serhiy Kyslytsia, at the meeting of the Security Council devoted to the situation at the ZNPP, the agency writes.Ukrinform“.

According to the report, on Tuesday, September 6, the UN Security Council met for the third time in two months at the request of Russia to consider the situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

“It is interesting to watch in this hall how the Russian envoy complains that he did not have time to properly study the published IAEA report, as if it was not Russia itself that called this meeting so urgently (to the UN Security Council, – ed.)… The only thing that explains this Russian commotion is an attempt to put pressure on IAEA Director General Grossi and his team while they were still preparing the report,” Kyslytsia noted.

According to Kislytsa, when the Russian Federation failed to pressure the IAEA and the commission published the report even before the UN Security Council meeting, the representative of the Russian Federation tried to manipulate the report, which, as he himself admitted, he did not have time to study.

“Next time, be patient, do not fuss, unless it is about the withdrawal of the Russian army from Ukraine,” Kyslytsia told the permanent representative of the Russian Federation at the UN.

According to Ukrinform, the permanent representative of the Russian Federation, Vasyl Nebenzya, expressed his dissatisfaction with the IAEA report, as it recorded the presence of the Russian army and military equipment at the ZNPP.

“He rhetorically demanded from Grossi to specify exactly which military equipment he saw at the station, and tried to convince the members of the Security Council that it was not there. At the same time, the Russian diplomat stated that he did not have time to study the report in detail,” the report says.

Serhiy Kyslytsia also believes that the only way to eliminate the nuclear threat caused by the Russian presence at the Zaporizhia NPP is to withdraw Russian troops and weapons from the plant.

“The main result of joint international efforts should be the withdrawal of Russian military and civilian personnel from the territory of the ZNPP, as well as from Energodar. This will certainly restore the safe operation of the plant, as it was before the full-scale Russian war against Ukraine,” he said.

The Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN called on Russia to implement the recommendations in the report regarding their removal.

“The delegation of Ukraine, like the IAEA mission, believes that the staff of the station works in difficult conditions, when there are military personnel and military equipment, as well as representatives of Rosatom, at the facility,” Kyslytsia added.

  • Earlier, the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Serhiy Kyslytsia, called on the IAEA to think about the permanent presence of its representatives at the ZNPP, in order to see the real situation, and not “a theatrical performance arranged by the Russian Federation”.
  • On August 29, it became known that the IAEA mission was heading to the Zaporizhzhia NPP. This happened after August 25, the captured nuclear power plant in Energodar was disconnected from electricity for the first time in history.
  • Rafael Grossi proposes to the Security Council of the United Nations Organization to create a zone of nuclear safety and protection at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
  • The International Atomic Energy Agency published a report based on the results of its visit to the Zaporizhia NPP, which is occupied by the Russians.
