The SBU will investigate the supply of Iranian weapons to help the Russian Federation in the war against Ukraine

It informs SBU.

They note that there is every reason to claim that the Iranian authorities and representatives of the industrial and defense complex are deliberately helping Russia in the war with Ukraine. Therefore, the investigation should establish by name all those involved in the supply of weapons to the Russian Federation, as well as establish the methods and routes of transportation of these weapons and further bring the culprits to justice.

The head of the SBU, Vasyl Malyuk, noted that Ukrainian law enforcement agencies are currently providing a legal assessment of Iran’s actions. Work is currently underway to prove the Iranian origin of the Geran and Shahed-136 drones with the help of expertise.

“Whoever plans for Russia to shell peaceful Ukrainian cities and villages should also be held responsible for the war crimes committed by the Russian Federation. Because you cannot knowingly sell sharp knives to a maniac, and then be surprised that he kills people,” Malyuk emphasized.

Currently, the SBU has opened proceedings under Part 1 of Art. 111-2 of the Criminal Code (assistance to the aggressor state). The sanction of the article provides up to 12 years of imprisonment.

  • On October 11, Ukrainian intelligence reported that Russia had ordered more than 2,000 Shahed-136 drones from Iran.
  • On October 20, the EU introduced a new package of sanctions against Iran for supplying weapons to the Russian Federation.
  • On October 21, Iran urged its citizens to leave Ukraine and not to travel there, in case the trip was planned.
