The Ukrainian army is attacking in the area of Balaklia. What is known | News of Kharkiv and Ukraine

Ukrainian troops continue their offensive near Kharkiv. According to unconfirmed reliable reports, the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to surround from the north and the south a large stronghold of Russian forces – the city of Balaklia, and now their units have entered the operational space, threatening to cut off the supply of the entire Russian group concentrated near Izyum. The Russian command hastily pulls up reinforcements in dangerous directions, but reports only on successes in its summaries. Analysis of available information conducted by the BBC

On Tuesday, it became known about the mass attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the direction of Balaklia – as it happened many times during the Russian-Ukrainian war, from unofficial but well-informed sources. Both pro-Ukrainian and pro-Russian bloggers and propagandists, reporting on events southeast of Kharkiv, generally did not contradict each other.

The differences were only in the assessment of the depth and speed of the advance of the Ukrainian troops and the situational reaction to what is happening – from “us ***** [кінець]” and “there is no panic” to “our tanks in Balaklia” and “Our Raisin”.

Both the Ukrainian and Russian general staffs are silent about the situation on the Kharkiv front.

The adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Oleksiy Arestovych, said that although the General Staff of Ukraine has not yet named the settlements where the successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been identified, but if we discuss Russian groups that describe the successes of the Russian military, then “no successes” is an inappropriate phrase.

“The “impending catastrophe” is more appropriate,” he noted and added that the very fact of the enemy’s big problems in the Kharkiv region indicates that the second front is actively developing.

“If you believe the Russian military leaders, who have not yet received a single line of information behavior, their raisin group can get into the operational environment. With the headquarters, generals and equipment,” said Arestovych and urged to wait for the official statements of the president and the general staff.

In his evening video message on September 7, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that “this week we have good news from Kharkiv region”, but noted that it is not yet time to name specific liberated cities in this direction.

At this moment, the following picture emerges: the Armed Forces broke through the Russian defense in several directions at once – from the south, north and west of Balaklia, covering the city with a semi-circle and taking fire control over the exit routes to the east.

It seems that the Ukrainian command wasted no time in storming Balaklia with large forces. The biggest danger for the Russian units is another strike – north of Balaklia, at Volokhiv Yar.

This is an important transport hub, the route to the railway station controlled by Russian troops in Kupyansk passes through it. And from it there is a route to the south, to Izyum. A large group of Russian troops is concentrated in that area, the supply of which depends on supplies from Kupyansk.

Additional threats are the possibility of an attack by Ukrainian forces from the northwest in the direction of the village of Shevchenkove and from the southwest in the direction of the village of Vesele – in case of success of the Armed Forces, both situations can become quite large “cauldrons”.

What pro-Russian bloggers write

“Don’t expect good news today,” writes the author of the Telegram channel Notes Veteran. Further, he makes obscene remarks against the Russian military commanders, “whose staff was 100% full on paper, and in fact, unit 45 had a maximum of 50% personnel. Once again – MAXIMUM. There are divisions in which the staff is actually 20% full.”

“Two combined detachments of the Russian Guard near Volokhov Yar have been fighting for more than a day in complete encirclement,” he continues.

“Now the outline of the enemy’s plan is clearly emerging. The main blow is coming in the Kupyansk direction. The task is to cut off the Izyum group from supplies, then surround it.”

“Northern road to Kupyansk [українцям] it was possible to at least take it under fire control, the Telegram channel reports “Elder Eddas”. – At night there were battles near Volokhov Yar, and I fully assume that the enemy managed to knock us out of it. Balaklia is in an operational environment, the Armed Forces will continue to develop success and it is quite likely that they will try to go to Kupyansk, cutting off both Balaklia and Izyum. They have the strength for it, which amateur bloggers have repeatedly written about.”

Telegram channel “War Z Ukraine” laid out a map of hostilities in the Kharkiv region.

What is the threat of the current offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region, asks the correspondent of “Komsomolska Pravda” Oleksandr Kots, the author of the Telegram channel Kotsnews.

“Considering the fact that the fighting started along the lines of Verbivka, Yakovenkovo, Taranushyna, Volokhiv Yar, the task of taking Balaklia is not up to the Ukrainians. It is important for them to first take control of the route from Volokhov Yar to Balaklia (they already control it with artillery), the latter will remain virtually surrounded: from Volokhov Yar there is a direct route to Izyum, and also to Shevchenkiv, through which the road goes to Kupyansk.

Yes, there is now a field supply road from Kupyansk to Izyum, which goes to the track under the city itself. But in the event of the enemy’s advance to the south of the Volokhov Yar, it will also be under threat.

And in the case of the enemy’s withdrawal through Mykhailivske to Kupyansk, the Izyum grouping is cut off from a large land. You will have to go to the East through Oskol. This, of course, is not a one-day process, but one would like to hope that the Ukrainians will not be able to develop the success of the past era.

I don’t know what to say now to those soldiers of the Ministry of Defense, the Russian Guard, the People’s Liberation Army and reservists from the LDNR who are heroically defending themselves in this area. Any words spoken from a distance will not seem very sincere. Hang in there guys…

PS With a system in which superiors do not like bad news, and subordinates do not like to upset their superiors, something must be done. Can reward for bad news…”.

What does the Russian command say?

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Minister of Defense Serhiy Shoigu and Chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov watched the “East-2022” command and staff exercises in the Primorsky Krai on the day of the start of the Ukrainian offensive near Kharkiv.

Shoigu, Putin, Gerasimov

On Wednesday, Putin touched on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. He did not comment on the situation at the fronts, limiting himself to general phrases about Russian goals and achievements in Ukraine.

“I think that we have not lost anything and will not lose anything. From the point of view of acquisition, I can say that the main acquisition is the strengthening of our sovereignty, and this is an inevitable result of what is happening now,” Putin was quoted as saying by TASS.

The daily briefing of the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of Russia Igor Konashenkov on September 7 began with the traditional words “as a result of successful offensive actions by units of the Russian Armed Forces…” and continued in the same way until the end.

Konashenkov did not say anything about the situation in the Balaklia area.
