The US Senate blocked an attempt to pass a bill to provide aid only to Israel and without mention of aid to Ukraine. About it reports Reuters.
The Democratic majority in the US Senate blocked a Republican attempt to pass an emergency aid bill for Israel, but without mention of aid to Ukraine.
Democrats stressed the importance of providing aid to both Ukraine and Israel, as well as funding border security and countering China in the Indo-Pacific region. All these measures were provided for in request for $106 billionwho is the president Joe Biden sent to Congress, and which the Speaker of Congress did not put to a vote.
“Our allies in Ukraine cannot afford to wait for help like our allies in Israel,” said Sen. Patty Murray, head of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Biden previously said he would veto the bill if it were to pass the Senate.
Senate leaders are also reportedly preparing their own bill to provide additional funding, which they hope to introduce as soon as this week.
Earlier, Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson said that the aid package to Ukraine would be related to US border security and would appear in the House of Representatives as soon as legislators supported the aid package to Israel by reducing funding for the federal tax service.
