The United States will closely monitor the results of the planned meeting between the dictators Putin and Kim Jong-un and is ready without hesitation to introduce new sanctions in case the two countries commit another violation of arms transfer restrictions.
This was stated by the spokesman of the US State Department Matthew Miller on briefing.
“I will remind both countries that any arms transfer from North Korea to Russia would be a violation of several UN Security Council resolutions”– he declared.
In this context, Miller emphasized that the American side will maintain the pressure of sanctions against North Korea and Russia, and will not hesitate to apply new restrictions if necessary.
In addition, he stated that Putin has become an international exile, as evidenced by his absence from the G20 summit. And his plea to North Korea for help shows the effectiveness of US sanctions and export control measures.
“The fact that the Russian dictator has to beg North Korea for help speaks of the effectiveness of US sanctions and export control measures. So the current situation means that it is “difficult for the Kremlin to maintain its military effort”– he added.
It will be recalled that Kim Jong-un plans to meet with the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in September and discuss the supply of weapons.
The White House has warned that North Korea will “pay the price” in the international community for supplying Russia with any weapons for use against Ukraine.
