They let you through the car for several hours: a volunteer talks about the details of the border blockade | News of Ukraine

Despite promises not to interfere with the import of humanitarian aid into Ukraine, participants in the strike of carriers on the Polish border create obstacles to its transportation. About this in comments said Polish volunteer, head of the Pogoń Ruska association Rafal Roszkiewicz.

In order to bring medical equipment for front-line hospitals and tactmed to Ukraine, he had to spend 40 hours waiting for the opportunity to cross the border at the Grebenne-Rava-Russkaya checkpoint.

“At the border crossing in Grebennoye, in front of the Polish barrier, eight trucks are arranged in a herringbone pattern on both lanes of the road. They are positioned so that a car or bus can pass between them, but not a truck,” Roshkevich said.

Near the strikers there is a tent where they are frying sausages. There are dry toilets nearby. The police are having fun with the strikers and eating sausages. Without any attempt to interfere.

Meanwhile, the queue of trucks that want to get from Poland to Ukraine stretches a little more than 60 km – to Zamosc.

In order for the strikers to let the car through the border, the drivers need to negotiate with them and explain: they are carrying goods from the categories that they promised to let through. For example, a humanitarian aid, the volunteer said. Next, you need to wait until the participants in the blockade allow the car to pass – they let one car through every few hours.

Even humanitarian aid does not get through without problems, says a Polish volunteer. His car, filled with medical equipment, was allowed through only after 40 hours of such negotiations.

“It didn’t matter that we were Poles, that we were carrying aid on which human lives depended – takmed for the army near Bakhmut, medicines for front-line hospitals. We depended on the whim of the strikers. After the death of the second Ukrainian driver, who was awaiting registration, I ask myself : How many people have lost their health or lives because medical aid and support from the Ukrainian army did not arrive on time? – says the volunteer.

“We are volunteers who travel during our free time and must return to work after returning. Moreover, after almost two days at the border, we still need to get to the east of Ukraine. After such an exhausting wait, it is simply dangerous to move on, even without entering the zone military operations,” he added.

Roshkevich also noted that while Ukrainian drivers are sitting in their TiRs, strikers arrive for several hours, serve their shifts and go home. “Therefore, Ukrainians are deprived of the opportunity to earn money, but the striking Poles are not,” said the volunteer.

He also recalled that politician Rafal Meckler, one of the leaders of the strike, was also one of the leaders of the “This is not our war” campaign, which was supposed to reduce the desire of Poles to help Ukraine.

“I absolutely disagree with him. This is our war – both in the Polish and European dimensions. Their actions damage not only the interests of Ukraine, but first of all our country. I hope this sabotage will be stopped. Otherwise, perhaps those carriers “who are protesting today will have to stand on the German border in 5 years, when German carriers will block the delivery of humanitarian aid to besieged Warsaw with trucks,” the volunteer added.
