On September 20, prosecutors of the Dergachy District Prosecutor’s Office of the Kharkiv region, together with law enforcement officers, inspected two basement premises in Kozacha Lopan village, where the Russian army tortured civilians during the occupation.
The occupiers set up prisons in the basements of the railway station and a local store. The Russian military forcibly detained people, subjected them to torture, physical and psychological violence.
At present, the victims at the hands of military personnel of the aggressor country are being established. Law enforcement officers are gathering evidence to bring justice to the Russian military.
The inspection was conducted jointly with investigators of the State Security Service of Ukraine in Kharkiv Region and Police Department No. 3 of the Kharkiv District Police Department of State Security Service of Ukraine No. 3 in Kharkiv Region, employees of the Dergachivsky District Police Department of the SBU Department in Kharkiv Region, with the support of forensic experts from other regions of Ukraine.
Investigative actions are carried out as part of criminal proceedings based on the fact of collaborative activity (Part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
