Ukraine can receive guided 155-mm Excalibur projectiles from the United States – mass media

In the near future, Ukraine may receive Excalibur guided projectiles for NATO standard artillery – caliber 155 mm from the USA. The announced and already signed package of military aid does not officially include these shells.

About this reports American publication Politico.

The publication notes that right now, as part of the new package, shells will not be transferred; it will happen in the near future.

“The projectiles will give the Ukrainians a new high-precision weapon, with the help of which it will be possible to hit buried Russian positions and command posts” – said in the material.

However, experts believe that Excalibur guided missiles have already been successfully used in Ukraine. In particular, they destroyed the bridges across the Dnipro near the temporarily occupied Kherson and Novaya Kakhovka. If Russian air defense can intercept HIMARS rockets, guided artillery shells cannot be intercepted in principle.

M982 Excalibur is a guided high-precision projectile of increased range. Its deviation from the target is less than two meters, the combat effectiveness is equivalent to ten standard 155 mm projectiles. Excalibur can be launched at a distance of up to 57 km, and it is also compatible with any NATO-standard artillery weapons – including those that are in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine: the 155-mm howitzer M777, the 155-mm Archer self-propelled gun manufactured by Sweden, as well as with German self-propelled guns PzH 2000.

It will be recalled that earlier American military experts and national security experts called on the US administration to immediately transfer as many weapons as possible to Ukraine. They said that now is the decisive moment in the war against Russia.

On August 19, US President Joseph Biden approved a new package of military aid to Ukraine with a total cost of 775 million dollars. The main thing that will be included in it are unmanned aerial vehicles-reconnaissance, as well as armored vehicles with protection against detonation on mines.
