The President said that all countries that support the UN Charter need to react to Russia’s missile attacks on civilian targets.
He recalled that the day after ten points of Ukraine’s peace plan were announced at the G20 summit, Russia responded with a “terror formula” – for each of these points it launched ten missiles at Ukraine.
About new missile strikes, Zelensky said that Russia is practicing energy terrorism against the civilian population, which is a complete analogue of the use of weapons of mass destruction.
“When the temperature is below freezing, and tens of millions of people are left without electricity, heat and water as a result of Russian missiles hitting energy facilities, this is an obvious crime against humanity,” he said.
Zelensky recalled that this is why Ukraine is turning to partners for help in protecting its skies, and is grateful to everyone who is already providing such assistance.
He demanded that the Security Council give a clear assessment of the actions of a terrorist state in accordance with the UN Charter and proposed the adoption of a resolution condemning any form of energy terrorism.
Zelensky also said that “a terrorist state should not participate in any voting on issues related to its aggression” because it gives him the opportunity to “block any attempt by the UN Security Council to fulfill its mandate.”
“It is nonsense to keep the right of veto for someone who wages a criminal war. The world should not be held hostage by one international terrorist,” the president said.
