The UOC-MP confirmed that they are not going to change the name after the Constitutional Court recognized the requirement for churches, whose religious centers of administration are located in Russia, to indicate this in their name in accordance with the Constitution. About it said the head of the legal department of the UOC-MP Archpriest Alexander Bakhov.

Bakhov believes that the decision of the Constitutional Court does not oblige the UOC-MP to change its name, since it only concerns the compliance of the law with the Constitution, and “there is no mention of the UOC in the law itself.”
The archpriest stressed that “the UOC is registered in accordance with Ukrainian legislation, its founder is the Cathedral of the UOC, its religious center, like all governing bodies, is located in the city of Kyiv.” Therefore, he regards attempts to apply the requirements of this law to the UOC-MP as a violation of the right to freedom of conscience and religion.
Earlier, a similar position was voiced by the head of the educational and information department of the UOC-MP.
Amendments to the law on freedom of conscience and religious organizations were adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on December 20, 2018 and provide that a religious organization whose headquarters is located in a country recognized as an aggressor must indicate this in its name.
Today the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Alexey Danilov stated that if the UOC has nothing to do with Moscow, then it would be fair for it to state directly that “Putin is Satan.”
- In the beginning of December Zelensky introduced personal sanctions of the National Security and Defense Council, in particular, against the functionaries of the UOC-MP. Former people’s deputy fell under sanctions Vadim Novinskythe governor of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra Pavel (Swan), as well as a dozen hierarchs of the UOC-MP.
