US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan stressed that holding such pseudo-referenda would be a direct violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty. It would also be another flagrant violation of the UN Charter and the principles of international law, he pointed out.

Sullivan said that the US knows that the results of these pseudo-referendums will be rigged, and that Russia intends to use them to directly annex the territories of Ukraine it temporarily occupies – either immediately or in the near future.

He stressed that the United States would never recognize Russian claims to any part of the occupied territories of Ukraine.

Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz called “bogus referendums” unacceptable, reports time online. The chancellor said that “voting” in the occupied territories violates international law.

Prime Minister of Estonia Where is Callas? stated that the “referendums” that Russia plans to hold in the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories will never be recognized, the answer to them will be more military support for Ukraine and more sanctions against the Russian Federation.

Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg wrote in Twitter that “fake referendums have no legitimacy and do not change the nature of Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine.”

“This is a further escalation of Putin’s war. The international community must condemn this egregious violation of international law and step up support for Ukraine,” he wrote.

  • The pseudo-referendums planned by the Russians in the temporarily occupied territories will not affect the position of the president in any way Vladimir Zelensky and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, pseudo-referendums will nullify the slightest chance for diplomacy, the presidential press secretary said. Sergei Nikiforov in the comment
