As the party begins the process of electing a new leader, he said he is on record that he will not allow himself to be nominated as a candidate.
“I am honored to be UK Secretary of Defense and the current threat requires stability in this position,” Wallace wrote.
He noted that he would seek from all candidates for the post of leader of the Conservatives the recognition that the economic security of Britain is impossible without national security.
“This requires real investment in our armed forces and intelligence agencies,” he concluded.
On air Sky News Wallace said he is currently “leaning” towards the candidacy of the ex-premier Boris Johnsonwho left the post in early September. He added that the party should focus on “who will bring unity and who can win the next election.”
