On Thursday, September 15, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi held a meeting with the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who came to Kyiv for the third time since the beginning of the war.

According to him, among other things, today he and Ursula von der Leyen discussed energy issues.
“We held substantive negotiations on important topics. In particular, the issue of energy security was discussed. We see how the Russian enemy strikes our thermal power plants and other energy infrastructure facilities. These are difficult challenges for both Ukraine and the European Union. Therefore, we all need to work together to overcome them.”– Zelensky wrote.
The President also thanked the head of the EC for the opportunity for Ukraine to join the European power grids.
“We are all interested in this: European countries can receive cheap electricity, and Ukraine can earn money for its budget, which will help us pay salaries and pensions”– he said.
In this connection, they also discussed the possibility of increasing the supply of Ukrainian electricity to EU countries.
Zelenskyi and von der Leyen also discussed Ukraine’s receipt of macro-financial assistance from the EU for the next year and the issue of Ukraine’s accession to the EU internal market. In addition, the politicians discussed the continuation of pressure on the Russian Federation with the help of the upcoming 8th sanctions package.
The president added that this is Ursula von der Leyen’s third visit to Ukraine during a full-scale war.
